Abreva Cold Sore Fever Blister Treatment
The fluid-filled blisters known as cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus and can cause discomfort and embarrassment for those who suffer from them. While there is no cure for the herpes simplex virus, cold sore outbreaks can be effectively managed with Abreva Cold Sore Fever Blister Treatment.
An FDA-Approved, Proven Active Ingredient
The active ingredient in Abreva Cold Sore Fever Blister Treatment is docosanol 10 percent. This topical medication is the only ingredient approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of cold sores that can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription. Studies have found that Abreva helps cold sores disappear more quickly, shortening the healing time to as few as two and a half days.
How It Works
Abreva Cold Sore Fever Blister Treatment travels deep into the skin of the lips and the area that surrounds the mouth. There, it acts as a barrier to prevent the herpes simplex virus from entering uninfected cells. As a result, the cold sore development process becomes interrupted, and the body can heal the existing sore more quickly. Docosanol 10 percent is most effective when used at the first signs of a cold sore. Adults and children over the age of 12 should apply the cream five times per day until cold sores are completely healed.
