About Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome

Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAI) is a common hip condition that can cause significant pain and stiffness, often impacting daily activities. Managing FAI can involve various treatments, many of which require medication. TheDrugClub helps ease the financial burden of these prescriptions, ensuring our members can access the care they need without breaking the bank.

What is Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAI)?

Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome, or FAI, is a condition where extra bone grows along one or both of the bones that form the hip joint – the femur (thigh bone) and the acetabulum (hip socket). This abnormal bone growth causes the bones to rub against each other during hip movement, leading to damage to the joint and surrounding cartilage.

There are generally two types of FAI, often occurring together:

  • Cam Impingement: Occurs when the head of the femur isn't perfectly round, causing it to grind against the acetabulum.
  • Pincer Impingement: Happens when the acetabulum has extra bone extending over the normal rim, pinching the femoral head.
