About LCPD (Late Presentation)

Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease (LCPD) is a rare childhood condition affecting the hip. It occurs when the blood supply to the femoral head (the ball part of the hip joint) is temporarily interrupted, causing the bone tissue to die and eventually collapse. While often diagnosed in younger children, "LCPD late presentation" refers to cases identified in older children, typically between 8 and 12 years old, or even into adolescence. This later diagnosis can often mean a more challenging course, as older bones have less potential for natural remodeling, potentially leading to greater hip deformity and an increased risk of early onset arthritis.
