About Otosclerosis

Otosclerosis is a condition where abnormal bone growth in the middle ear leads to progressive hearing loss. While it can be challenging, various treatments are available to manage symptoms and restore hearing. TheDrugClub understands the importance of affordable healthcare. Our membership helps you save significantly on the medications and prescriptions often needed for otosclerosis care, making treatment more accessible.

Otosclerosis is a medical condition characterized by abnormal bone remodeling within the middle ear. Specifically, it involves the tiny stirrup-shaped bone called the stapes. In a healthy ear, the stapes vibrates freely, transmitting sound waves from the eardrum to the inner ear. With otosclerosis, new, spongy bone growth forms around the stapes, causing it to become fixed and unable to vibrate properly. This impaired movement prevents sound from being effectively transmitted, leading to progressive hearing loss.

This hearing loss is typically conductive, meaning it's due to a problem in the outer or middle ear. However, in some cases, the condition can also affect the inner ear, leading to mixed or sensorineural hearing loss. Otosclerosis often affects both ears but can sometimes be unilateral. Symptoms usually appear gradually, starting with difficulty hearing low-pitched sounds or whispers, often accompanied by tinnitus (
