About Eosinophilic Granulomatosis (Churg-Strauss)
Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA), formerly Churg-Strauss syndrome, is a rare autoimmune condition causing inflammation in blood vessels and various organs. Managing this complex disease often involves expensive long-term medications. TheDrugClub offers a simple way to significantly reduce the cost of these crucial prescriptions, making treatment more affordable for you and your family.
Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA), previously known as Churg-Strauss syndrome, is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by inflammation of small and medium-sized blood vessels (vasculitis). This inflammation can affect various organs throughout the body, most commonly the lungs, skin, nerves, and gastrointestinal tract, but also potentially the heart and kidneys. A hallmark of EGPA is the presence of unusually high levels of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in the blood and affected tissues.
Individuals with EGPA often experience a history of asthma and allergies, which can precede the onset of vasculitis symptoms by many years. Other common symptoms include nerve pain (neuropathy), skin rashes or nodules, muscle aches, fatigue, weight loss, and fever. Due to its systemic nature and varied presentation, diagnosing EGPA can be challenging, often requiring a combination of blood tests (looking for eosinophilia and specific antibodies), imaging studies, and tissue biopsies from affected organs.
Treating EGPA typically involves controlling inflammation and suppressing the immune system to prevent organ damage. The cornerstone of treatment is usually corticosteroids, such as prednisone, which are effective in quickly reducing inflammation. For more severe
