About Goldmann-Favre Syndrome
Goldmann-Favre Syndrome (GFS) is a rare inherited eye disorder that progressively impairs vision, often starting with night blindness. While there's no cure, managing symptoms and complications is key. TheDrugClub helps individuals and families afford necessary medications, ensuring financial barriers don't hinder care for conditions like GFS.
Goldmann-Favre Syndrome (GFS) is a genetic condition characterized by the progressive degeneration of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. It's an autosomal recessive disorder, meaning an individual must inherit a copy of the faulty gene from both parents to develop the condition. GFS primarily affects the photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) and the retinal pigment epithelium, which are vital for clear vision.
Individuals with GFS typically experience symptoms from childhood, often beginning with nyctalopia, or night blindness, as the rod photoreceptors are among the first to be affected. Over time, central and peripheral vision can deteriorate, leading to reduced visual acuity, visual field loss, and sometimes nystagmus (involuntary eye movements). Other retinal changes, such as pigmentary alterations
