About Lichen Planus
Lichen planus is an inflammatory skin condition that can cause itchy, purplish bumps on the skin, and sometimes affects nails, hair, or mucous membranes. While there's no cure, treatments can manage symptoms effectively. TheDrugClub understands the financial burden of ongoing medication, offering a simple way for members to save significantly on prescriptions needed for lichen planus management.

Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory condition that can affect the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes (such as inside the mouth or on the genitals). It's characterized by small, flat-topped, purplish, itchy bumps on the skin. When it affects the mouth, it often appears as white, lacy patches that can sometimes be painful or cause a burning sensation. On the nails, it might lead to thinning, grooving, or even nail loss. In some cases, it can cause hair loss on the scalp.
While the exact cause of lichen planus isn't fully understood, it's believed to be an autoimmune reaction where the immune system mistakenly attacks skin and mucous membrane cells. It's not contagious and typically affects adults, often between the ages of 30 and 60. Diagnosis usually involves a physical examination and sometimes a skin biopsy to confirm the condition and rule out other similar skin disorders.
