About Nephrotic Syndrome Edema
Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder that causes your body to pass too much protein in your urine. This loss of protein, particularly albumin, leads to a cascade of symptoms, with edema (swelling) being one of the most prominent and uncomfortable. This swelling often appears in the legs, feet, ankles, and around the eyes, and can also lead to fluid buildup in the abdomen (ascites) or lungs (pleural effusion). Other symptoms can include foamy urine, fatigue, and weight gain from fluid retention. It can be caused by various underlying kidney diseases, such as focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, membranous nephropathy, or minimal change disease, and sometimes by systemic conditions like diabetes or lupus.
Managing nephrotic syndrome edema typically involves a multi-pronged approach aimed at reducing protein loss, controlling swelling, and treating the underlying cause. Diuretics are often prescribed to help your body shed excess fluid. Medications
