Pharmacist insight
Medication adherence is particularly critical for oral chemotherapy agents. I work closely with patients to manage side effects that might cause them to skip doses. Many supportive care medications — anti-nausea drugs, growth factors — are available in generic form, helping reduce the overall cost burden of cancer treatment.

About Neuroendocrine Prostate Cancer
Neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) is a rare, aggressive subtype of prostate cancer, often arising after standard hormone therapy or developing independently. Its distinct characteristics necessitate specialized, often costly, treatments. TheDrugClub is dedicated to easing this financial strain, helping members access significant savings on essential medications, making advanced care more attainable.
Neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) represents a particularly aggressive and challenging form of prostate cancer. Unlike the more common adenocarcinoma, NEPC cells lose their dependence on male hormones (androgens) and adopt features resembling neuroendocrine cells. This shift often occurs after prolonged hormone-deprivation therapy for typical prostate cancer, known as treatment-induced NEPC. Less commonly, it can manifest as *de novo* NEPC, meaning it originates as this aggressive subtype from the outset. This type of cancer tends to grow and spread rapidly, often to distant sites, making early and effective intervention crucial.
Because NEPC behaves differently from standard prostate cancer, its treatment approach also varies. Traditional hormone therapies are typically ineffective.
