About Modafinil
Modafinil is a prescription medication widely recognized for its ability to promote wakefulness in individuals experiencing excessive daytime sleepiness. If you rely on Modafinil, you know how crucial it is for your daily life. Modafinil is a unique medication primarily prescribed to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to specific conditions. It is most commonly used to treat narcolepsy, a chronic neurological condition characterized by overwhelming daytime sleepiness and sudden attacks of sleep. It also helps individuals with shift work sleep disorder (SWSD), which affects those working irregular hours, and as an adjunct treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) to reduce residual daytime sleepiness after primary treatment (like CPAP). It's important to note that Modafinil is not intended to treat general fatigue or to replace adequate sleep for healthy individuals. ### How Modafinil Works
Unlike traditional stimulants, Modafinil is classified as a wakefulness-promoting agent. Its exact mechanism of action isn't fully understood, but it's believed to work by affecting several neurotransmitters in the brain. It increases the levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, and histamine, which are all involved in regulating the sleep-wake cycle. Modafinil also appears to increase the activity of orexin (hypocretin) neurons, which play a crucial role in maintaining wakefulness. This multi-faceted approach helps to enhance alertness and reduce fatigue without causing the same level of euphoria or withdrawal often associated with conventional stimulants. ### Typical Costs and How TheDrugClub Saves You Money
Without insurance or a discount program, Modafinil can be quite expensive. The typical cash price for a 30-day supply can range anywhere from $300 to over $600, depending on the dosage, pharmacy, and generic versus brand-name (Provigil). Even with insurance, co-pays can still be substantial, making it a financial burden for many. This is where TheDrugClub makes a significant difference. We work directly with our network of pharmacies to ensure that your Modafinil is covered entirely as part of your membership. But the savings and convenience don't stop there. TheDrugClub also offers free home delivery for your Modafinil. Imagine

What Modafinil is approved for (FDA label)
PROVIGIL is indicated to improve wakefulness in adult patients with excessive sleepiness associated with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD). Limitations of Use In OSA, PROVIGIL is indicated to treat excessive sleepiness and not as treatment for the underlying obstruction. If continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the treatment of choice for a patient, a maximal effort to treat with CPAP for an adequate period of time should be made prior to initiating and during treatment with PROVIGIL for excessive sleepiness.

Drug interactions for Modafinil (FDA label)
Effects of PROVIGIL on CYP3A4/5 Substrates The clearance of drugs that are substrates for CYP3A4/5 (e.g., steroidal contraceptives, cyclosporine, midazolam, and triazolam) may be increased by PROVIGIL via induction of metabolic enzymes, which results in lower systemic exposure. Dosage adjustment of these drugs should be considered when these drugs are used concomitantly with PROVIGIL [see Clinical Pharmacology ( 12.3 )] . The effectiveness of steroidal contraceptives may be reduced when used with PROVIGIL and for one month after discontinuation of therapy. Alternative or concomitant methods of contraception are recommended for patients taking steroidal contraceptives (e.g., ethinyl estradiol) when treated concomitantly with PROVIGIL and for one month after discontinuation of PROVIGIL treatment.
