After a Name Change: Updating Your Pharmacy and Prescriber Records

· 2 min read

Changed your name? Update it with each pharmacy and prescriber so labels, fills, and pickups keep matching your ID and member card.

Short answer: After a legal name change, update your name with each pharmacy you use and each prescriber's office. Then check that new prescriptions, labels, and your member account all match, so pickups go smoothly when staff compare your name to your ID.

Why it matters

If your prescriber sends a prescription under your new name but the pharmacy has your old one, the pharmacy may not match it to your profile right away. Pickups can stall if the name on the label doesn't match your ID.

Step 1: Your prescribers

Call each prescriber's office: "I've changed my name. Please update my records and use my new name on future prescriptions."

Step 2: Each pharmacy

At the counter or by phone: "I've changed my name from [old] to [new]. Please update my profile and keep my prescription history together." Bring ID if they ask.

Step 3: Check the next label

On your next fill, read the name on the label. See reading your bottle label. If it's still the old name, ask the pharmacy to fix it. Our guide to a wrong name or birth date on a label has the steps.

Step 4: Your membership account

If you're a member of The Drug Club, contact support@thedrugclub.com or (424) 375-7114 to ask how to update the name on your account.

Step 5: Your own records

Update your medication list and any reminders. While you're at it, see check what your pharmacy has on file.
