About Amyloidosis (ATTR)
Amyloidosis ATTR is a rare, progressive condition where abnormal proteins build up in organs, affecting vital functions. Managing this disease often relies on specialized, high-cost medications. TheDrugClub helps ease this burden by providing members significant savings on essential prescriptions, ensuring you can access the treatments you need without facing overwhelming financial stress.
Amyloidosis ATTR, or transthyretin amyloidosis, is a serious and often underdiagnosed condition caused by the buildup of abnormal transthyretin (TTR) protein deposits in various organs and tissues. These deposits, called amyloid fibrils, can interfere with the normal function of the heart, nerves, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract, leading to a range of debilitating symptoms. There are two main forms: hereditary ATTR (hATTR), which is passed down through families, and wild-type ATTR (wtATTR), which typically affects older individuals and is not inherited.
Living with ATTR amyloidosis can present significant challenges, and managing its progression often requires specialized medical intervention. While there is no cure, several medications have been developed to stabilize the TTR protein, reduce amyloid deposits, or clear them from the body. Key treatments include TTR stabilizers like tafamidis (marketed as Vyndaqel and Vyndamax) and gene silencers such as patisiran (Onpattro), vutrisiran (Amvuttra), and inotersen (Tegsedi). These medications can slow disease progression and improve quality of life, but they come with a very high price tag, often costing tens of thousands of dollars per month.
