About Bladder Cancer (High Grade)
High-grade bladder cancer is an aggressive form of bladder cancer that requires prompt and effective treatment. Facing a diagnosis can be overwhelming, especially when considering the cost of necessary medications. TheDrugClub is dedicated to easing this burden, offering significant prescription savings to help you afford vital treatments and focus on your health journey.
Understanding High-Grade Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is categorized by how deeply it invades the bladder wall and how aggressive its cells appear under a microscope. High-grade bladder cancer refers to cells that look very abnormal and tend to grow and spread more quickly than low-grade cells. This form of the disease carries a higher risk of recurrence and progression, meaning it's more likely to come back or spread to deeper layers of the bladder or other parts of the body if not effectively treated.
Common symptoms can include blood in the urine (hematuria), frequent urination, painful urination, or lower back pain. If you experience any of these, it's crucial to consult a healthcare professional for diagnosis and appropriate management.
Common Treatments and Medications
Treatment for high-grade bladder cancer often depends on its stage and whether it has invaded the muscle wall. For non-muscle-invasive high-grade bladder cancer, initial treatment typically involves a Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) to remove the tumor. This is usually followed by intravesical therapy, where medications are delivered directly into the bladder. Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is a common and highly effective intravesical immunotherapy used to prevent recurrence and progression. Other intravesical chemotherapy agents, like mitomycin or gemcitabine, may also be used.
