About Cystitis, the broader condition

This overview covers Cystitis in general, not Cystitis (Hemorrhagic) specifically.

Cystitis, a common and often painful inflammation of the bladder, affects millions, particularly women. While uncomfortable, it's usually treatable, but prescription costs can add up.

Cystitis is the medical term for inflammation of the bladder. It's most commonly caused by a bacterial infection, often referred to as a urinary tract infection (UTI). Symptoms can include a strong, persistent urge to urinate, a burning sensation during urination, frequent small amounts of urine, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, pelvic discomfort, and sometimes blood in the urine. While women are more prone to cystitis due to their anatomy, men can also develop it. Recognizing the signs early is key to effective management.

The broader condition is Cystitis.

What is Cystitis (Hemorrhagic)?

A diffuse inflammation of the urinary bladder characterized by hematuria due to bleeding from the bladder mucosa. Hemorrhagic cystitis is most often associated with infections, e.g., human adenovirus infections, but may also be due to other noninfectious etiologies: chemotherapy with certain drugs, e.g., cyclophosphamide and ifosfamide, and radiotherapy.

Also called: Hemorrhagic Cystitis
