About Eluxadoline
Eluxadoline is a prescription medication used to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D), a chronic condition affecting millions. Managing IBS-D can be challenging, both physically and financially. At TheDrugClub, we're dedicated to helping our members access essential medications like eluxadoline more affordably, ensuring relief is within reach.
Understanding Eluxadoline for IBS-D
Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D) is a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by recurrent abdominal pain, cramping, and frequent loose or watery stools. It can significantly impact daily life, making effective management crucial. Eluxadoline, often known by its brand name Viberzi, is a targeted prescription medication specifically approved for the treatment of IBS-D in adults.
How Eluxadoline Works
Eluxadoline operates through a unique mechanism of action within the digestive system. It is a mixed mu-opioid receptor agonist, delta-opioid receptor antagonist, and kappa-opioid receptor agonist. In simpler terms, it acts on specific opioid receptors in the gut, but unlike traditional opioids, it has minimal absorption into the bloodstream, reducing the risk of central nervous system side effects. By engaging these receptors, eluxadoline helps to reduce abdominal pain and discomfort, slow down exaggerated bowel contractions, and improve stool consistency, thereby alleviating the primary symptoms of IBS-D.
Typical Costs of Eluxadoline
As a brand-name prescription medication, eluxadoline can be quite expensive, often posing a significant financial burden for patients. Without insurance or discount programs, the typical retail cost for a 30-day supply can range
